Brad Inman sells company to Beringer Capital

Beringer Capital, a Canadian private equity firm specializing in the media, marketing services, and technology sectors, today announced that it has acquired real estate media company Inman Group.

Founded in 1996 by entrepreneur and journalist Brad Inman, Inman News was an early leader in coverage of the booming real estate technology industry. The site’s controversial coverage and opinion pieces —not always favorable to real estate brokerage — helped his company gain notoriety in the industry.

Moving forward, Brad Inman will retain an ownership stake and continue in an active role in the company. Inman, who is 68 years old, cited his age and the fact that his kids are now grown as a reason to sell.

According to a press release, Beringer Capital plans to invest significantly in additional growth opportunities across Inman’s editorial and events operations, including strategic acquisitions. It will work closely with the existing team to support the continued development of dynamic tools and content that drive long-term success for the entire Inman community.

“The Beringer team brings complementary data and digital media expertise to Inman,” said Brad Inman, founder and chairman of Inman Group. “They share our commitment to pushing the industry forward, ensuring that its readers are positioned for success amid a rapid pace of change. We found a partner whose values and priorities closely align with our own.”

Chief executive officer Josh Albertson will continue to lead the company.

In 2016, Beringer Capital acquired media and events company Adweek. helping to diversify its product offerings and drive significant growth before an exit in 2020.
