Berkshire Hathaway buys Iconic Dallas Firm Ebby Halliday Companies

Earlier this week, officials announced Ebby Halliday, a Dallas, Texas-based company, agreed to be acquired by HomeServices of America Inc., an affiliate company owned by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc.

Included in the purchase will be all Ebby Halliday brands—Ebby Halliday, REALTORS®, Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate, and Williams Trew Real Estate. Also included are the firm’s mortgage and title companies.

“It is no surprise that HomeServices acquired this fine firm.  Long the dominant residential firm in the Dallas Ft Worth area, Ebby Halliday has tremendous market share and has been the top independent brokerage in Texas for many many years.  The firm is an excellent fit for HomeServices and the firm it already owns in the market, Allie Beth Allman.  This will strengthen the HomeServices presence in the Dallas area and likely provide some synergies between these two HomeServices companies.  HomeServices continues to grow its wholly owned brokerage business and with this acquisition, likely will pass Realogy’s NRT unit to become the largest wholly owned brokerage unit in the U.S at year’s end.  With NRT slowing their own acquisition pace we won’t know this for certain until the year is over. “
