Gorman exits Coldwell Banker amid C-Suite shakeup at Anywhere

Ryan Gorman and Katrine Helmkamp are out and Sue Yannaccone and Don Casey are in

As the housing market continues to slow, the shake-ups in brokerage executive suites continue. Anywhere Real Estate is the latest firm to undergo changes, with a series of leadership changes announced late Tuesday.

According to the conglomerate, the changes are “intended to accelerate the company’s strategic priority to further integrate and simplify the home buying and selling experience.”

Sue Yannaccone and Ryan Gorman are first up in the game of executive musical chairs. Yannaccone, who currently serves as Anywhere Brands president and CEO and leads the Anywhere portfolio of brands — including Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate, CENTURY 21, Corcoran, ERA, and Sotheby’s International Realty — will expand her role to also oversee the Coldwell Banker brand.

Gorman, on the other hand, has stepped down as Coldwell Banker CEO. The firm noted that Gorman, who has served as Coldwell Banker CEO since January 2020 and is among the more visible CEOs in the resi brokerage space, will “move into a strategic advisor role.”

A shake-up also occurred at corporate relocation specialists Cartus, with Katrina Helmpamp, Cartus’ president and CEO, announcing her decision to retire at the end of the year. Don Casey, who currently serves and president and CEO of Anywhere Integrated Services and oversees title and settlement services, insurance, and mortgage and underwriter joint-ventures, will expand his role to include the Cartus relocation business.

Eric Barnes, who currently serves as Cartus’s CFO and senior vice president of supply chain, has been appointed as interim Cartus president and CEO.

“Don and Sue are exceptional leaders with deep expertise running multiple successful scaled businesses,” Ryan Schneider, president and CEO of Anywhere, said in a statement. “We believe having a singular leader for our core real estate brokerage business and likewise, for the real estate transaction services we provide, will help Anywhere move even faster, create more value for our customers, and ultimately, deliver a better experience for both affiliated agents and consumers.”

“Cartus and Coldwell Banker are both in strong, industry-leading positions,” said Schneider. “I am grateful for Katrina’s and Ryan’s leadership, including driving growth of their respective businesses, simplifying operations, and innovating with new products, technology, and marketing to support affiliated agents, franchise owners, and mobility clients. We wish them both well as they move to what’s next.”

Yannaccone, who joined Anywhere in 2015, has held several leadership positions across the company’s franchise and owned brokerage operations. Casey is also an Anywhere veteran and has held leadership roles within the firm for more than 30 years.

Like other brokerages and real estate firms, Anywhere has struggled recently as the housing market has cooled, undergoing layoffs and seeing the firm’s stock drop 57% since the start of the year.
